Core repulsion effects in alkali trimers

چکیده
The present paper is related to a talk presented during the Symposium on Coherent Control and Ultracold Chemistry held during the Sixth Congress of the International Society for Theoretical Chemical Physics (ISTCP-VI, July 2008). The talk was entitled ”Electronic structure properties of alkali dimers and trimers. Prospects for alignment of ultracold molecules”. Here we report on the electrostatic repulsion forces of the ionic cores at short separation, involved when the potential energy surfaces of alkali trimers are calculated with a quantum chemistry approach based on effective large-core potentials for ionic core description. We demonstrate that such forces in the triatomic molecule can be obtained as the sum of three pairwise terms. We illustrate our results on the lowest electronic states of Cs3, which are computed for the first time within a full configuration interaction based on a large Gaussian basis set. As a preliminary section, we also propose a brief introduction about the importance of alkali trimer systems in the context of cold and ultracold molecules. Core repulsion effects in alkali trimers 2

Ionic selectivity in L-type calcium channels by electrostatics and hard-core repulsion
A physical model of selective "ion binding" in the L-type calcium channel is constructed, and consequences of the model are compared with experimental data. This reduced model treats only ions and the carboxylate oxygens of the EEEE locus explicitly and restricts interactions to hard-core repulsion and ion-ion and ion-dielectric electrostatic forces. The structural atoms provide a flexible envi...
متن کاملHomo- and heteronuclear alkali metal trimers formed on helium nanodroplets. Part II. Femtosecond spectroscopy and spectra assignments.
Homo- and heteronuclear alkali quartet trimers of type K(3-n)Rb(n) (n = 0,1,2,3) formed on helium nanodroplets are probed by one-color femtosecond (fs) photoionization (PI) spectroscopy. The obtained frequencies are assigned to vibrations in different electronic states in comparison to high level ab initio calculations of the involved potentials including pronounced Jahn-Teller and spin-orbit c...
متن کاملMany-body exchange-repulsion in polarizable molecular mechanics. I. orbital-based approximations and applications to hydrated metal cation complexes
We have quantified the extent of the nonadditivity of the short-range exchange-repulsion energy, E(exch-rep), in several polycoordinated complexes of alkali, alkaline-earth, transition, and metal cations. This was done by performing ab initio energy decomposition analyses of interaction energies in these complexes. The magnitude of E(exch-rep(n-body, n > 2)) was found to be strongly cation-depe...
متن کاملThe long-range non-additive three-body dispersion interactions for the rare gases, alkali, and alkaline-earth atoms.
The long-range non-additive three-body dispersion interaction coefficients Z(111), Z(112), Z(113), and Z(122) are computed for many atomic combinations using standard expressions. The atoms considered include hydrogen, the rare gases, the alkali atoms (up to Rb), and the alkaline-earth atoms (up to Sr). The term Z(111) arising from three mutual dipole interactions is known as the Axilrod-Teller...
متن کاملSelf-induced density modulations in the free expansion of Bose-Einstein condensates
We simulate numerically the free expansion of a repulsive Bose-Einstein condensate with an initially Gaussian density profile. We find a self-similar expansion only for weak interatomic repulsion. In contrast, for strong repulsion we observe the spontaneous formation of a shock wave at the surface followed by a significant depletion inside the cloud. In the expansion, contrary to the case of a ...
